Making a Reclaimed Rustic Oak Shelf

 In Wood Projects

My youngest daughter is about to turn one, and we are having a huge party, what does this have to do with some shelves?  Really nothing other than the fact it is part of my EXTENSIVE honey-do list to get ready for the party, so you are getting a video on this project.

The lumber I used was really the coolest part of the project.  My brother left a couple of spare barn oak boards at my house from a project he was doing (you may have seen my Instagram video resawing a bunch of boards on that RIDGID Jobsite saw @thewoodworklife)

I joined them with dadoes, rabbet joints, and glue, which can be difficult when working with super rough lumber you want to keep the character on.  The joinery is easy, once you build a reality where the concepts of square, plum, and straight don’t exist.

I also changed up the style of the video a little bit and did an almost ASMR video.  Just you, me, and the tools.  I hope you enjoy it.

Do you like this style video?  Let me know if you want to see more like this in the comments, or if you have any questions about the techniques I demonstrate in the video.
